Award categories
Our category framework is reviewed regularly to reflect the priorities of the regional industry. Every category is open to organisations operating across the UK of England.
Builder of the Year
Recognises the region's most accomplished general builders — companies and sole traders delivering exceptional standards of workmanship across extensions, renovations, new builds and full property refurbishments. Judged on craft, client satisfaction, safety culture and quality of finish.
Roofer of the Year
For roofing contractors demonstrating outstanding skill across pitched and flat roofs, slate, tile, lead, single-ply membrane and traditional lead work. Judges look for technical excellence, weather-tight detailing and a strong record on safe working at height.
Plumber of the Year
Awarded to the plumbing and heating engineer or firm showing the highest standards in installation, repair and maintenance — from domestic boiler and bathroom installs to commercial heating systems. Gas Safe accreditation and a clean safety record are essential.
Carpenter of the Year
Celebrating craftsmanship in first and second-fix carpentry, joinery, bespoke staircases, kitchens, doors and structural timber work. Judged on precision, choice of materials, attention to detail and finished quality on real projects.
Tiler of the Year
For wall and floor tiling specialists working across ceramic, porcelain, natural stone and large-format formats. Entries should evidence flawless setting out, expert substrate preparation and a portfolio of complex residential or commercial installations.
Electrician of the Year
Recognises NICEIC or NAPIT registered electricians delivering outstanding domestic, commercial or industrial electrical work. Judged on installation quality, compliance with the latest wiring regulations, EV charger and renewables expertise, and customer service.
Digital Innovation of the Year
For contractors, consultancies and product teams using digital tools to transform how construction work is planned, delivered or handed over. Entries should evidence measurable impact through BIM, digital twins, AI-assisted estimating, site-management software, IoT sensors, drone surveying, AR/VR or other emerging technologies — with clear gains in productivity, safety, sustainability or client outcomes.
How entries are assessed
Each submission consists of a short written response against the published criteria (maximum 1,500 words), up to five supporting images, and optional referee contact details. Entries are reviewed by an independent panel of senior practitioners drawn from across the regional industry.
